Moontown is happy to announce the debut album from Sydney based trio Honey 2 Honey titled ‘To Water A Road’.

On first listen a feeling comes to mind. When something sounds so different you can’t immediately form an opinion. A feeling somewhat curious and hard to place. The connections aren’t so obvious that it clicks on a referential level. Something deeper and more meaningful is present. A work that requires more time, but offers up much more in return.

To me, ‘To Water A Road’ acts as the perfect document of the past 2 years. Circling the drain, the endless waves of disaster and exhaustion. I believe that most of us can agree, things have been beyond hard. Stance or opinion aside, there has been an air of communal dread that continues to linger. I feel like escapism has been prevalent with the times. By and large, it has helped many of us get through. Now it has become essential to process things properly, taking time to focus on who and what is important in our lives. To me, this record is the perfect accompaniment.

Much like the world, things have completely flipped since their debut release on Chapter Music back in 2019. Honey 2 Honey have since transformed. The remnants of the electronic post-punk pop we might have previously associated them with linger, but barely (lose a member, gain two). This album has taken a turn into Adult Contemporary pastures. Guided also by trails of 90s R&B, Quiet Storm and Pop more broadly. This is by no means a work of nostalgia. The references are present, but hard to place. They have taken their own form with thanks to the help of Tim Bruniges, who produced, recorded, mixed and mastered the album. Listening to‘To Water A Road’we are subject to a level of high fidelity production that both the band and us as a label aren't fully accustomed to.

‘To Water A Road’ stands as a valuable testament to all of the Honey’s individual contributions to the Australian music underground. Output that spans across punk bands (Basic Human), experimental and ambient excursions (Gas, Steam Vent, Phone) and even driving techno self release 12”s (Raus) just to scratch the surface of the expansive oeuvre present. But here we are guided gently into the 3 expanding outward, a proper extensive investigation into a rare form for DIY communities, a produced studio album. A welcomed alien process to the band and the label alike.

This release feels singular, it feels important and after possibly 100 listens, it still sounds fresh. A long time coming, but a longer time leaving (if at all) - We are happy to present Honey 2 Honey’s expansive and exceptional ‘To Water A Road’ on compact disc and digital formats to the world.
